HSRP optimization provides immediate or link-specific failover as well as a recovery mechanism. Virtual Router Redundancy Protocol (VRRP) and Gateway Load Balancing Protocol (GLBP) are derivatives of HSRP, providing additional Layer 3 redundancy features such as load balancing.
