This book is an essay in systematic ontology. Part one sets forth a realist and non-Humean theory of the causal relation. Part two integrates that conception of causation with a theory of universals that might not unjustly be described as Platonic. In Part three, the focus shifts to epistemology; in it, some epistemological consequences are drawn from the ontology developed in Parts one and two.
