loginNaturalistic Hermeneuticsproposes the position of the unity of thescientific method and defends it against the claim to autonomyof the human sciences. Mantzavinos shows how materials that are“meaningful,” more specifically human actions and texts, can be ade-quately dealt with by the hypothetico-deductive method, the standardmethod used in the natural sciences. The hermeneutic method isnot an alternative method aimed at the understanding and the in-terpretation of human actions and texts, but it is the same as thehypothetico-deductive method applied to meaningful materials. Thecentral thesis advocated by Mantzavinos is, thus, that there is no fun-damental methodological difference between natural sciences, socialsciences, and humanities.
