loginThe Internet Protocol (IP) Multimedia Subsystem, better known as "The IMS", isbased on the specification of the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) as standardized bythe Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF). But SIP as a Protocol is only one partof it; the IMS is more than just a protocol. It is an architecture for the convergence ofdata, speech and mobile networks and is based on a wide range of protocols, ofwhich most have been developed by the IETF. It combines and enhances them toallow real time services on top of the Universal Mobile Telecommunications System(UMTS) packet-switched domain.
